About MeSo now to answer the question: "Who is The WOZ?"To start off, my actual name is Andrew Wozniuk, and believe it or not, there are people who don't know my first name because they just know me as "The WOZ".I don't try to achieve this on purpose, it just happens. Aside from that, I am a graduate of Carleton University where I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. I currently teach Ballroom Dancing which is a perfect fit for me as I have a lot of energy, don't like to sit still, find working in an office to be boring, and have been involved in dancing my whole life. I started Ukrainian Folk Dancing back in 1987 and have been doing it on and off through school even while I was at university. Here's the Ensembles I have danced with: Dunai (St. Catharines, ON), Chaika (Hamilton, ON), Svitanok (Ottawa, ON), and while participating in the Mohyla Institute Summer Immersion Program (Saskatoon, SK) which was an intensive 5 week program that included dancing every day which I participated in from 1995-1998. Any Ukrainian function involves Ballroom Dancing so I've also been exposed to it my whole life and started getting into it once I was in high school, and took professional lessons once I was in university. I've talked to quite a few people who are very happy with their careers and they all did different things, but said to get into something you enjoy doing. Another friend told me if you can make your hobby your career, then you'll always be itching to go to work, instead of dreading it. I think I made an excellent choice making a career out of dancing and am excited for all of the opportunites which I've already recieved and still have available to me. Being of Ukrainian descent affects just about every aspect of my life: Food, music, parties, etc. Take a look at the podium in the picture of me - it has a Тризуб (pronounced "Tryzub") on it which is a Ukrainian symbol. This is because my sister's wedding was held in a Ukrainian banquet hall. As you may imagine we had a Ukrainian band, Ukrainian food, and there were many Ukrainian traditions as a part of the celebration. As for fun thing I enjoy (besides dancing) I find traveling to be a great way to meet people, see new things, and experience different cultures around the world. I also enjoy learning languages and learning about linguistics. Languages which I can speak (conversationally for the most part) are: English, French, German, Ukrainian, Russian, and Polish. I can get by with pretty much any slavic language and can also read the Cyrillic Alphabet. This came in handy when travelling as many Eastern countries don't have the same knowledge of English as in Western Europe. I have actually had the opportunity to travel in my life more than I originally realized so I dedicated a section of this website to it. Of course, this is just a glimpse into what really makes "The WOZ", but hopefully it gives you a good idea about who I am. |
